Proviron has started the production of biodiesel
Proviron has started the production of biodiesel in Oostende, Belgium. The construction of the biodiesel plant took 10 months. At full capacity the plant will employ 15 people directly and will produce 100 000 tonnes of biodiesel per year. Proviron's research and engineering teams have developed the production technology in-house.
After Proviron had obtained an agreement from the Belgian authorities late 2006 to produce and market 256 million liters of biodiesel between October 2007 and 2013, the company decided to invest in a new biodiesel plant. The remaining production capacity will serve for export business. Crude glycerin is the byproduct of biodiesel production. This glycerin is sold to various outlets inside and outside Belgium.
The biodiesel activities of Proviron are situated in a broader strategy. The company wishes to launch itself in the area of green chemistry with renewable raw materials. Apart from the traditional activities of the company, the production of fine chemicals and the realization of productions for third parties (toll manufacturing), biodiesel production contributes to the sustainable presence of Proviron on the chemical site in Oostende.
With biodiesel production, Proviron hopes to contribute to combating climate change. Proviron is ready to collaborate with the fuel industry in Belgium and abroad.
