The green alternative to petroleum diesel
In 2007, Proviron started producing Provichem® FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) on the Ostend site. Applying Proviron technology, an existing facility has been converted into a biodiesel production unit. Our over fifty years of experience in esterification has been helpful. The annual capacity of the unit approximates 100,000 tons.
The Ostend site has two extra useful assets. One is the capacity to recover steam from an exothermic process on site. The other is the excellent location near the A10 motorway, railways and the Ostend-Bruges canal.
The Proviron biodiesel production unit has been recognised by the Belgian government. This enables the sale of an official annual quotum to oil companies. The companies mix the biodiesel with low sulphur gasoil and sell it in the Belgian market with taxes being reclaimed.
